The Saudi led group, Katibat al Khadra (Green Battalion) has formally merged with the Chechen Jaysh al Muhajireen wal Ansar (Muhajireen Army). The Muhajireen Army considers themselves to be the Syrian branch of the Islamic Caucasus Emirate. They, along with the Green Battalion, Sham al Islam (a Moroccan-led group), and a Syrian group have been fighting together under the moniker of Jabhat Ansar al Din in Aleppo since July. The Muhajireen Army has been fighting for control of Aleppo Central Prison since earlier this year.
The Green Battalion, as noted by McClatchy, is comprised Saudi veterans of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. They formed their own group because they did not want to take part in the infighting.
It appears that the Green Battalion has merged with the Muhajireen Army within the larger Ansar al Din coalition. It is unclear if the Green Battalion will cease to independently conduct operations.
